It rained everyday since two weeks ago. Many a low ground in this city has been flooded after a sudden downpour yesterday, making the traffic much longer time to navigate through. At the Dongping river near Danni's mothers home, I saw anchored cargo ships floated almost level to the bank. Severely flooding warning was still looming around.
If it had went according to what had been estimated, we should probably have a clear idea on when Danni would be discharged now if it wasn’t today. According to the schedule, Danni has two more radiation to go, possibly one chemotherapy and potentially ‘internal radiation to limited area’ depends on the MRI report.
However, Danni's body had reacted to radiotherapy 'much more severely than most other patients at this stage of the treatment' (from her chief nurse). The radiotherapy had been postponed for two days this week to give her body a breathing time. And because she hardly ate anything, her chemotherapy (maybe the last one) also suspended, fearing complication.
In those days, I poured untouched food to waste bin, or brought them back to my mother in dismay. At a similar situation a few weeks ago, my mother asked me 'shall we cook less food?' - so there would be less waste.
I replied 'No, we just keep it as much as it normally should. Don't let the fact that Danni couldn't eat becomes a self-suggestion.'
Things were gradually picking up from the low point since I wrote last time. Danni started to attempt porridge again. Today she crammed in her full. If someone were going to mug me, I would be very delightfully to show them two empty food containers.
Although she didn't have a good appetite, Danni never really lost her interests in gourmet cuisine. When she was still able to speak up, quite often, she would discuss cookery and recipes with other fellow patients. All laid in their beds, day dreaming.
Last week, she had been put off by the extensive wound in the mouth.
Now the familiar Danni was back.
She added Napoleon-style Pasta (made with milk, butter, tuna, sun-dry tomato etc) down her wish list along with KFC You Tiao (油条, deep fried doug).
She practically leaned forward on a TV cookery programme. It was a dessert made with fruit like lichi, pear, coconut etc.
She had even given her cousin a shopping list on what snack to bring from Sichuan. For a guy severely at lack of brain cells on food related imagination. She then gave up grumpily, 'it would be for Jingye. I can't have any of these'.
